Although I teach in a low-income, low performing Milwaukee public school, I couldn't imagine teaching anywhere else. Why not? Simply stated is because of my students. I care for them deeply and have built lasting, trusting relationships with them. Many of them do not have a healthy, safe environment outside of school, and I am honored to provide a safe learning environment for them and to work with them to achieve the skills the need to be successful.
My students want to learn; they just lack the skills of how to learn. I enjoy working with them to instill those skills that they can put into practice in and out of the classroom. In addition to academics, we work on character and social skills, which are equally as important in today's society.
