My goal this school year is to incorporate a flexible seating arrangement to promote more physical movement. Recent studies show that giving students several choices for seating options provides an opportunity for physical activity and promotes more on-task behavior.
Donations will provide my students with learning disabilities the ability to focus more and to increase academic success! Many of my students with special needs have ADHD and require movement in order to stay focused on the task at hand. The Alphabetter Stand-Up desks will enable them to do their work and get the movement/stimulation that their brains need. The desk's swinging pendulum footrest bar will allow students to move in the classroom without disrupting the rest of the class. Instead of walking around the room to satisfy the urge to move, they can swing away with their foot! The Kore Wobble Chairs and coffee table will provide another seating option. The wobble chairs provide much needed fidget movement, focus, and even works the core muscles.
A classroom with flexible seating allows much needed physical and mental stimulation to students. Giving students the power of choice to work where they can focus best will produce greater collaboration, increase social skills, and teach responsible decision making! My students and I appreciate your interest in our classroom project and look forward to seeing the flexible seating in action!
