Have you ever tried to read a foreign language and you were able to read a few of the words, but the rest meant nothing to you? Imagine that being your situation every time you had to read. Then imagine everyone else being able to read except for you- all the books you want to read are like that, the homework your teacher gives is like that, even menus at restaurants! You become frustrated because no matter how hard you work at it you are still struggling!
That is how my students see reading.
My students are smart, funny, and resilient but struggle with school and learning. They receive special education services from me daily in our learning support classroom to get important interventions so we can hopefully catch them up to grade level. While they participate everyday in their general education classroom, they struggle and need a lot of help and guidance from their teachers and peers to be successful.
