My classroom has many books, games, and manipulatives that I have either purchased myself or recycled from something else. I have come to realize iPads can be integrated into my classroom without a loss of appreciation for hands on learning or human interaction. In fact, iPads will allow the most effective use of online materials I have already purchased such as Learning Without Tears, where students can work at strengthening fine motor skills for handwriting. They will allow students to record themselves for assessment of growth of fluency skills. And, there are other online resources I would like to incorporate, but they require an iPad.
Not all of my students have access to iPads, or even the internet, at home. Having 4 iPads in the classroom will help to bridge the digital divide and hopefully level the playing field for future endeavors my students will encounter. Having cases for the iPads would help keep them safer from the daily wear and tear that will definitely happen in my classroom full of movement.
