My students are Special Education students in High School and have trouble with their expressive and receptive language skills. Expressive and receptive language skills are a fundamental part of our lives as we need to be able to understand and speak to people to function in this world. Because they don't have good communication skills, many of my students need to use communication boards to help them express what they want to say. Using communication boards that are in color are visually more appealing and are also more educationally sound as the things that I want them to say or understand are in color in the world around us. Because my students are Special Needs, they are often rigid in their thinking, so when I print in black and white, they don't relate to what I am trying to understand, which hinders their learning process.
With a color printer that can print communication boards in color, my students can see the world around them as they really are. I really want to help my students improve their expressive and receptive language skills because after they leave high school, they will be in the real world, where they will live independently, and I want to set them up for success.
