My students attend a charter high school in New York, NY. They are college and career-bound youth who are on a mission to break the stereotype of what it means to be a scholar of color from a "disadvantaged" neighborhood. Over 50% of my students come from poverty-stricken home situations. The remaining students come from low-income families that work multiple jobs to support their choices and decisions whenever possible. The mentality and mission of our school is to mold young minds into college-bound scholar who are ready to take on the world, regardless of their background and home life. We constantly strive to provide consistency through social and emotional support, instilling a sense of self-worth in our students.
