Whether at school or at home, students struggle taking notes--especially in math class. Research has shown that when note-taking and lectures are combined with written word and art, students (even us adults) retain more and make more connections with the material. It takes an artistic mind and a lot of time to create templates for students to use--two things I admit I am short!
DoodleNotes are a great way to offer students pre-made templates to ensure they are getting the important details, making personal connections, and are staying engaged in the lesson--either in person or remotely! I plan on purchasing the template bundles for my different math classes. Combined, the bundles will meet most of the standards that I teach. While this is just one component of effective teaching, it will help all students have the required material. These are not pre-filled in templates but artistic renditions for guided notes. As we discuss the topic of the day, students will still work on sample problems and participate in discussions but these templates will allow for students to fill in formulas, show examples, and make their own connections while completing the sheets either digitally or on paper. Knowledge retention will increase and so will their performance!
With the gaps that these students have acquired over three years with multiple weeks or months out of school, they need short, concise, and quick ways to gather their knowledge in one place.
