Sensory play activities serve to stimulate a child's senses. They can be used in conjunction with meeting academics needs, or serve as a means to help calm a child down. Sensory play is crucial to brain development, helping to build nerve connections in the brain’s pathways and can be used to help improving social skills such as communication and cooperation.
These sensory play materials will help my students explore their senses (sight, smell, taste, touch, hearing, vestibular and proprioceptive). Activities like these will create opportunities for my students to engage with their peers or take some needed time to themselves.
