This project is all about creating 3D items and integrating new technology into the Family and Consumer Sciences Department. As a field that is constantly changing due to technology, we would like to be able to integrate 3D tools into our curriculum to make our courses exciting, fun, and up-to-date! Many times, the key to growing our program is having new and innovative ways of teaching. With a 3D printer, we would be able to integrate the ability to create something purely from scratch at the creative hand of each student. This gives them the hands-on experience they crave and the creativity they deserve within the classroom setting.
Specific lessons with the 3D printer would include jewelry and accessory making in our Fashion & Textiles courses; serving utensils for our Nutrition courses, and basic children's toys in Child Development.
