In my first grade classroom, the students are learners, thinkers, mathematicians, readers, scientists, geographers, historians, and most importantly, friends. Students are learning independent skills as well as working collaboratively. My students are an energetic bunch who love to learn. They are eager to become excellent readers and writers. They are eager to learn how to add and subtract "big numbers". My students are very curious and ask great questions to expand their learning.
Our classroom is in a city called Lowell, Massachusetts. The class and school is culturally diverse. More than half the students in our school receive free and reduced lunch. My colleagues and I work hard everyday to support all learners. The staff works collaboratively to make sure the needs of all students are met.
