Students learn how engineers change wind energy into electrical energy by building their own scale model wind turbines and measuring the electrical current they produce. They then learn how design and position affect the electrical energy production. Students will begin by researching the effectiveness of wind energy and how it is used to create electricity. They will use a CAD design program to design their own version of a wind turbine blade.
Next they will use the 3-D printer to print out their wind turbine blade designs and measure their effectiveness. This unit will give students concrete evidence of how alternative resources (such as wind energy) are tested and evaluated.
About my class
