When you were in high school, you probably began the year with a fully-equipped Social Studies classroom. As the year went on, when the pencil sharpener broke or the stapler jammed, your teacher likely was able to replace it within a few days. This is not always the case in under-funded city and charter schools.
My students need a full classroom's worth of supplies, and unfortunately, neither my school nor I have the budget to fulfill this need. I have requested: tissues for runny noses; hand sanitizer to keep us healthy and germ-free; coloring supplies for projects; a globe and map to put history in geographical context; pencils and pens for writing; a high-quality sharpener to sharpen pencils; a stapler to put together packets and essays; a presidential poster to aid in keeping our leaders in the correct context of time; and scented plugins to keep our classroom pleasant-smelling, especially on gym days.
Your help would be greatly appreciated in ensuring my students' pencils and minds stay sharp, their packets get stapled, and their classroom has color!
