My students are hardworking third graders and they are adopting the "Not Yet" mentality that I encourage. "I can't" is not allowed unless it is followed by the word, "...yet." One of my students said that her biggest concern about the school year is being bullied, but in our classroom, we build each other up and celebrate one another's accomplishments. My students are aspiring "doctors, veterinarians, fire fighters, soldiers, nurses, soccer players, football players, and more." They believe that their future careers begin in third grade, because learning to read and reading to learn will be the keys to the future. Right now, they love to read about animals, soccer, sports, Goosebumps, and Magic Tree House, though some are still learning to sound out words. Our class has 96% free/reduced price lunch and our school is a haven of hardworking students, parents and educators who put kids first and want to be a community within the community.
