I teach geometry to 100 amazing sophomores from the Woodlawn neighborhood on the south side of Chicago. We believe our quality education is the civil rights issue of our time and we work hard to ensure an even playing field for our future. Grades in my class are computed using standards-based grading, so final grades are only based on summative assessments and projects. I incorporate a lot of art, alternative assessment, presentations, and literacy in my class. On most days, I have set up a problem for the students to work through together, with my role being the guide on the side. We cherish mistakes and learn from them, and grow, together.
