I am 7th grade science teacher at a middle school with a high amount of low income students, combining this with funds that are continually cut by the state makes it hard to fund classrooms with new science supplies and everyday supplies. We do many hands on projects in the class ranging from building bridges and rockets to just simple models of atoms. Students do not use a lot of technology in the classroom since prices for these items are high and most of the money goes to everyday supplies. Some experiments we do in the classroom we do as a group or demo lab since there is not enough for every student to create their own lab or project. My students always enjoy doing their own projects and are engaged more, this also help keep them curious and interested in science in the future. By helping my classroom out, it leaves other funds to help buy the more expensive thing and to upgrade equipment.
