My students, mostly inner city kids ages 3 and 4, come to school for only a half day or 2.5 hours, and almost all are eligible for free/reduced breakfast or lunch. I have two sessions of 15 students in an inclusion classroom, serving different needs. Many have not experienced life as we may have. Their experiences in many cases are very limited. Many times to make a connection for my students, I have to show pictures of the objects we are talking about. My students, like all students, are enthralled with technology, however their small hands and eager bodies are not able to safely be on a computer or iPad without teacher guidance. One iPad and 15 students make it very difficult for all to see. Time is of the essence, as in all classrooms, but with only a half a day, rotating throughout computer stations isn't always possible with one teacher and one assistant. My students are interested in learning and I feel that with this technology they will increase that motivation.
