My students are awesome. They are funny and fun to be around. They have big ideas and big dreams. They teach me new things everyday. But they also have a lot of needs. Many live in substandard housing, or don't have enough adequate clothing, or have to walk through a dangerous area to get home. They tend to be from families who often have to choose between electricity and food. And because of that, they may not always make the right decision. I spend as much time teaching how to live in this world as I do teaching content. Despite this, many of my students persist and overcome and go on to live productive and amazing lives. I will never do work that is as meaningful as this.
