I teach special education at Lowery Road Elementary on the east side of Fort Worth. We serve a diverse student population: over 80% of our students are economically disadvantaged, almost 30% are English language learners, and close to 10% qualify for special education services. We also have quite a high mobility rate. Despite some of the challenges our students face, our campus meets state accountability standards.
I teach resource and inclusion to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. This means I work with students with various learning disabilities, as well as autism, ADHD, and emotional disorders. I provide targeted math and reading intervention to students in small groups, and also support students in their regular education classrooms. While my students struggle academically, they are intelligent, hilarious, and creative!
