Our classroom is arranged with collaboration in mind. Students sit at tables together and share writing and art materials. When working with a partner or a group, students may sit where they like (clipboards at the carpet, standing at the counter).
I have invested in lamps for more cozy lighting and they like to have the overhead lights off.
We take lots of brain breaks to keep our bodies moving and our brains awake. My students love to dance, but will also go for a good stretch.
At our morning meeting at the carpet we greet each other, share about our lives outside of school, have an open discussion about the goings on of school, and always end with a game. This is one of their favorite times of day, because my students LOVE games.
Another favorite time is our after lunch Quiet Time, where students are free to read, write, or draw.
In our classroom, we strive for balance and consistency with our expectations high.
