Students are encouraged to be active participants in their learning, yet are hindered by the expectation that they sit still and complete their work in a traditional setting (one-size, fits-all chairs and desks). My innovative, modern classroom will reflect individual students' needs and encourage collaboration, scholarly discussion and positive peer relationships through unique, flexible workspaces.
I picture students circled up in our classroom cafe discussing their task, carrying the portable lap desks outside to work under the trees, or balancing on a wobble board while editing an essay.
By encouraging opportunities to work collaboratively with their peers, (a necessary 21st century skill!), I hope my students will gain independence and confidence as they navigate their way through life.
