I teach on average 75 sixth grade students per year. We are a small, tight-knit community that has strong cultural roots. The students I teach are a patchwork pulled from a wide variety of situations. English Language Learners striving to become proficient in an unfamiliar language; students with a variety of disabilities identifying their ideal way to learn; kids who have little else but school to look forward to; and a myriad of other students whose stories and struggles are unique. We all learn in a wonderful building built three years ago. The push in our district is to teach a kid to think and be a good person above all else.
