I am a twelfth year Kindergarten teacher in a low-income public school in the heart of Chinatown in Oakland, Ca. Over 80% of our student population qualify for the federally funded lunch program. Our students at come from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. In my class alone, I have over 71% Second language learners speaking a variety of languages.
