Enriching our children seems to be more challenging as kids are not being supported at home. Our students range in languages, economic wealth, and cognitive abilities. We have students recently seeking refuge from Puerto Rico due to Hurricane Maria. I think it is imperative that they receive tangible resources beyond their wildest dreams! My classroom is in dire need of new materials that attract, connect, and build lifelong learners. My students will be working cooperatively using the folder games to enhance their grammar, nonfiction/text skills, and build fluent comprehension. They will use these already created games when in centers and at the teacher table.
My classroom needs calculators that complement Kagan strategies for self-check and allows for optimal partner growth. Intermediate math can be difficult if they don't already know their math facts. The calculators will help my students skip count as they do repeated addition and subtraction. They can also reinforce their multiplication skills. Through doing this, all of my students will be engaged and will have an opportunity to create and execute lessons. All students learn best by listening, seeing, then doing!
The wobble chairs will allow for flexible seating as my students work through their current emotional struggles. I plan to place these at the computer center so that they can multitask. The headphones will allow for them to hear clearly as they acquire new language in math and reading while using the i-ready programs and imagine learning.
