One goal that we have in our 5th-grade classroom, is to learn about the history of the United Stated of America in a way that both engages the learner and invites them to become inquisitive about the past history.
By using the book "Blood on the Water" the students will get to experience, first hand what it would be like to be a colonist coming to the New World and the struggles they will face. The students are eager to find new ways to learn and ways that captivate their minds in this endeavor.
The students will benefit by this project by increasing their knowledge about Colonial America and bridging the gap between social studies and English language arts.
Research shows that student learn better when they can make connections across subject areas. By using this book in reading and then discussing the events in social studies will help to make positive and meaningful connections to help improve the knowledge of the students.
Help us to read the past history and make it come alive!
