As young, elementary students in a low income area, my students don't always get the opportunity to learn through performing arts. These students need help expanding their minds, creativity, and personalities as they sing, dance, and act. We are performing Disney's Jungle Book, the first major performance of it's kind at our school.
Learning comes in all forms and performing arts can inspire the desire for creative, as well as academic learning. Costumes, sets, and props are a crucial part of this experience. As they delve into their characters, they must activate prior knowledge and the understanding of their character, come out of themselves, and create their character. How better to assist in this process than by dressing as their character and immersing themselves in that environment.
While we are doing what we can to use resources on hand, we need help. The monkey and wolf costumes will help those students become sneaky monkeys and howling wolves. The shiny and flashy pants and shirts will really make our Kaa the snake come alive. Our elephants will look official marching in the Elephant Band with their elephant hats. The ivy, leaves, and camo netting will really "set the stage" as a jungle. Please consider helping us.
