Welcome to my recoup and recovery room. I have worked with special needs students for over 25 years. I was in the classroom for 20 years and for the last 5 years I have worked as a behavioral interventionist. My particular group of students are working towards better understanding themselves, their families, and those they come into contact with on a day to day basis. At any given time they may be in a crisis mode and need a quiet place to recoup and recover. We work on coping strategies, de-escalation techniques, communication and affirmation. Many of the students I work with come from environments that are less than nurturing, and are perhaps even homeless. I want to create an environment that is welcoming, safe, private enough for individual recoup time, yet sturdy enough to hold up against the rigors of students in crisis.
