The crates are going to be turned into stools for sitting at the tables. Wobble cushions (x4) will be used for students who simply need to wiggle while they are sitting in their desks, or on the floor. The stools will be used at our "standing" table. Students like to move and sit in a place where they are comfortable. The lap desks will give them a work space while utilizing floor seating options such as the wobble cushions allowing them to have a flat, stable surface to work on. Floor mats will add comfort to the floor seat options so that students are not sitting directly on the floor. The pencil boxes, caddies, storage boxes and magazine file holders all play their role in flexible seating. These items will hold the store all the supplies for the students. Pencils, glue, scissos, notebooks, folders and papers for the students will all be neatly stored inside of these items.
When we are at home we sit in many different seats. The couch for watching tv, our office chairs for working, and dining room chairs for dinner. We sit where we feel most comfortable. Why wouldn't we want to learn this way?
From floor seating, to standing only I am hoping to provide many different options for my students. I want them to grow and learn in an environment that makes them feel confident and safe. Allowing them to take control of their learning style with flexible seating will help that.
