My school is located in a very needy area in Brooklyn, New York. An overwhelming majority of students come from families who live in poverty and cannot afford to provide basic necessities to their children. 95% of the school population receives free lunch, and many come to school without eating breakfast. Because of the standard of living for most of these families, many work numerous jobs just to rent one room for their entire family to live in. As a result, parents do not even have the time to take their children to the library, let alone have the money to buy them books of their own. Through this project I hope to give students access to literature they would normally not have access to.
