The materials I am requesting for my students are to help everyone make a safe and welcoming return to school. My second grade students are accustomed to having flexibility in their learning environment in the classroom. With new social distancing guidelines, many of the flexible learning nooks and seating choices I used to offer my students will no longer be available. It is my hope to create some of these flexible spaces outdoors.
My students will love using the portable cushions for outdoor seating making it possible to find new open air spaces for us to turn into our classroom. The children can sit under the shady sycamore trees, perch on top of the rock wall, or rest against fence posts using the cushions to keep them engaged and comfortable while working. They will be able to get lost in a good book, conduct science investigations, or just enjoy a snack break outside with their on-the-go seats!
In addition, my second grade students will need different recess equipment that will allow them to play safely with each other. My class will be using the grassy field for recess so that every student will have plenty of room to exercise and have fun. The soft comet balls, ring toss game, and jump ropes will provide my students with engaging toys they can use independently while having fun socializing with their friends.
