Students are introduced to many different art forms in the art classroom, one of those being mixed-media. We will be creating a mixed-media self-portrait using clay and found objects. As part of the process, students will be producing sketches of their ideas. As a teacher of students with multi-cultural backgrounds, I see students struggle daily with the art supplies in the classroom - the color palette of the supplies is monochromatic and lacks diversity. I strive to create a classroom environment that supports diversity and individuality. I want the students to know and feel that they are valued. It's amazing what something as simple as multi-cultural colored pencils can accomplish!
