The students from my school live in one of the highest inner-city poverty areas in not just New York, but in the entire nation. Many of our students are English language learners who live day-to-day and view coming to this public school as a way to escape their home lives.
Some don't even have homes to go to! We try our best to provide students with access to after school programs and technology, but with major budget cuts, we can no longer afford to fund student-centered projects.
