As we move into the new school year, we are working further into our district initiative of reading text, writing about text, and talking about text using collaborative learning. In order to get 3rd graders excited about text, I want to incorporate TIME for Kids into our ELA block. Getting kids to talk about current events and working together on answering questions about non-fiction test will help them increase their test preparation from the beginning of the year without making it feel like extra work.
Students from Title I Schools need more opportunities to engage in meaningful text. Fulfilling this Ðǿմ«Ã½ proposal will allow my students the opportunity to engage in texts in a whole new way. Allowing them this chance to talk about texts across curriculum will help them understand that literacy is important. Math based literature will allow me to bring texts into my Math block to enhance understanding on their topics in the textbook.
Giving students these materials will overall increase their interest in reading and create a strong desire in literacy across all classes!
