When you think of a library you think of books, lots of books. Our classroom library is lacking in this department. We need a wide variety of current, paperback books to fulfill our library needs.
I'm a 20+ veteran teacher and I still have several of the books I began teaching with! I've repaired loose and ripped pages over the years. Some are just beyond repair and must be discarded.
New books would give my adventure seeking students a variety of genres, on relevant topics, and in a wide range of reading levels. As second graders they come into to my room on varying reading levels. Having more books for them to choose from on their particular reading level would enable them to find that just right fit in a book. No more boredom from too easy of a text or struggles with too hard of a text. Students will use these books to read to themselves, partnering reading and to read to others on lower levels. Nonfiction text will also be used for resource purposes. These books will not only enhance the learning and growing love of reading for my current students but for all my students to come.
