I have listed titles of books that feature strong, diverse children characters. These titles present strong role models and provide representation for more of my students. While some texts explore day to day life lessons, others explore large concepts such as mindfulness and citizenship.
Rather than being secondary characters, or just completely absent from texts, these titles feature strong leads who relate to the population of my class. In trying to develop lifelong readers I am aware that I must provide my students with highly engaging texts. They want to see themselves in books. They want to be a part of the story. These books will help them to go further in reading and in life!
