Magazines are a wonderful way for students to experience nonfiction texts and to become familiar with current events. Scholastic News, Geography Spin, and Science Spin will provide new opportunities for my 3rd graders to practice comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary and even math. They will also gain valuable knowledge about the world's diverse landscape.
It is my hope that my students will become engaged readers, with an increased tolerance of those they will encounter in today's society. These age appropriate magazines will be utilized during science and social studies instruction as well as in small group reading workshops. I know my students will enjoy the experiences they receive while they travel in their imagination through the pages of Scholastic News.
