My students have a desire to read. My goal is to deepen their desire and love for reading. I believe that by having books in the classroom library that are of their interest they will deepen their desire to read.
The books I selected are realistic fiction books that I believe my students can relate too. I selected books with a sports theme, books with young men on various adventures, and books with gross, odd, and unique boy behaviors for my male students. For the young ladies in my class I selected realistic fiction book about dance, friendships, and girl stuff. I also selected the Goosebumps series book because they are classics. Mystery books always peak their interest.
These books will be utilized daily for independent reading time. The student have 20 minutes of independent reading as part of our balanced literacy approach. Having books that peak their desire to read will definitely deepen their reading desires.
About my class
