My students are so eager to learn to read! Everyday during circle time, I read aloud to them and their interaction with me is effortless. I've never seen 1st graders so animated and excited about books. They are leaning in, making predictions, and waiting for the climax! When it comes time for them to read independently, books at their individualized reading level are scarce. My students come from very low socioeconomic backgrounds. Many do not have even one book in their home and have come to school without the benefit of having been read to. I want to get them hooked on reading by providing them books to read that they can be successful at. Many of my stories are at a reading level way above the struggling reader and he/she is easily discouraged. Having the correct materials to teach with will add a boost to our Reader's Workshop and help us tremendously to become accomplished readers
