How lucky am I to have 22 awesome first graders walk into my inclusion classroom each day! These diverse group of learners are made up of 40% English language learners, 2% have ADHD, and 27% receive special education services. Currently, 40% of my students are reading above grade level, 10% are reading on grade level, and 50% are reading below grade level. Although we are fortunate to have access to a variety of books for instruction, classroom teachers do not have access to any formative or normative reading assessments. Prior to Special Education referrals, I want to be able to collect more data about the needs of my struggling readers to give them a targeted intervention based on their specific need. I want to provide them true differentiation and measure their response to intervention. With the highest poverty students, there isn't a minute to waste!
