All my students want to be successful and graduate. These materials will enhance my students' social emotional learning skills, thus helping them better deal with expressing how they are feeling. This room is a place where my students can go and learn more appropriate ways to deal with expressing feelings along with learning techniques for calming down in a safe and non-judgmental environment.
Every student has the opportunity to come to the "Room 2 Breathe" during anytime of their school day. This allows time for my students to deescalate. They are able to choose which activity, seating, discussion, music, etc, will assist them so that they can return to their classroom. A "Room 2 Breathe" create opportunities for students to continue learning without posing a disruption or feeling out of place due to what it is they may be experiencing.
One of the best ways to increase attendance and graduation rates for my students are to offer them opportunities to be successful and boost their confidence inside and outside of the classroom. My students have already showed an amazing interest in a "Room 2 Breathe" as many have said "I have never had a place I could go to actually gather my thoughts or truly deal with how I am feeling." I know this project will only help enrich my students' lives as they continue to learn, mature, and progress in their daily lives and prepare for life after high school.
