Last March, I had many ideas of experiments, hands on activities, and project based learning I wanted my students to try at home to get them engaged, think outside the box, and away from the screen.
But there was a major barrier: it was not fair for me to assume all children had even the most basic materials at home (salt, sugar, vinegar, bicarbonate, straws, balloons, etc) and I did not want to make caregivers feel they needed to spend money or make a trip to the store to buy these items.
For this reason, I am dreaming of sending home kits to all my students with a variety of materials for them to follow me along or try on their own. I will be providing them with many items, but they will also need the most basic science equipment to feel like true scientists at home.
Can you help my students bring home a piece of our classroom?
