In a Title I school with roughly 70% of our students receiving free or reduced rate lunch, as well as English as a Second Language, it is imperative our students are provided with not only meaningful, hands-on learning, but also learning opportunities that engage, introduce, and open students to ideas beyond their realm of knowledge or experience.
These materials will allow my students to dig deep into learning experiences, to discover, explore, and challenge themselves beyond pencil and paper. This school year, it is my hope to start each morning with STEM bins, providing my students time to build simple machines with K'nex, to explore coding with a robotic mouse, to use building straws, blocks, etc. to construct images on task cards, to use circuit kits to investigate electricity, to explore magnets, and more.
These materials will allow my students to build understanding through discovery and hands-on learning. Ultimately, my hope is to use STEM bins to further encourage a love of lifelong learning, taking risks, and thinking outside the box.
