Our high school is the largest high school in Utah with approximately 3,500 students. The average classroom size for core classes is 40 students. These students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. They come from a variety of economic backgrounds with about 70% of students receiving free or reduced lunch. Our high school is also one of the most racially diverse in the state with about 79% of students identifying as minority. Approximately 73% of students graduate, with less than 75% of those going on to post-secondary education.
Despite the many challenges our students face, my class has a 95% daily attendance rate. Students often say they can't wait to come to class and see what is in store for them. They engage in active learning activities and feel relaxed in our classroom. It is a place where they can take a break from the outside world and focus on learning.
