Making my students feel comfortable, safe, and loved at school is my top priority as a third grade teacher. Flexible seating (including beanbags, floor cushions, and pillows) will allow my hard working readers to enjoy independent reading in comfort and style.
Allowing my students to select their seat during independent reading time is one way that I give them ownership over our classroom. Unfortunately, their choices are currently limited to sitting on hard chairs, laying on the hard floor, or sitting underneath a desk or a table. To increase their stamina as independent readers, my students need a warm and inviting classroom library that they enjoy reading in. In order to create this space, we need a variety of comfortable flexible seating options.
In addition, as a newer teacher, I am still working on building an A+ classroom library, complete with a variety of rich and engaging books to help my students become successful and enthusiastic readers! Having a variety of engaging, leveled book options in our classroom will make it possible to differentiate instruction and enhance learning for the unique and hard-working learners in my classroom, meeting the needs of my advanced students, struggling learners, and ELL (English Language Learner) students alike.
In conclusion, by adding both a larger selection of leveled books and a variety of comfortable flexible seating options to my classroom, my growing readers will thrive!
