My class is made up of a great group of kids who would greatly benefit from a bigger classroom library. A lot of my students are economically disadvantaged and cannot afford books. Acquiring the many new books for them will be helpful when sparking their interests as well as getting them to read. Our class is using the Daily 5 model, and meaningful reading time is key to students' academic success.
The minority enrollment of our school is 75% of the student body, including a diversity of ethnic backgrounds.
With an over 90% free-reduced lunch rate, many of our students are left in poverty. With the disadvantages of poverty, students may miss out on crucial learning experiences, as a result of a lack of educational materials. As a pivotal age, our sixth graders have a drive and desire to learn. Our classroom is in great need of high interest reading materials and resources for the classroom.
