We are located in a small town with a population of 1,000 in southwest Missouri. We are considered a high poverty district with 93% of our students recieving free or reduced priced lunches. Great things are happening in our district despite the economic struggles families are dealing with. Last year, our MSIP 5 Standards Report (Missouri's annual performance report) was a 94.6%. This includes academic testing, graduation rates, attendance, subgroup achievement, and College and Career Readiness. Even though our graduation and achievement rate is high, the percent of students going on to pursue a college education remains quite low.
We have 30 students in second grade with 15 students in each class. For the past two years, we have been implementing Stephen Covey's "Seven Habits of Effective People" in hopes of developing essential life skills that will build self-confidence and prepare our students for the challenges they will face, no matter the college or career path they choose.
