My students are an eager group of kids yet some of them lack the emotional support they crave. They love to learn and soak up all that is taught. They crave a safe and welcoming environment, so that they can learn and grow into responsible adults. Certain things that they will need in the future to become successful adults are simple things like a beautiful welcoming classroom that will support their emotional health and allow them to feel capable.
My students are in a self contained 5th grade classroom. The school is located in a middle level socioeconomic community. Most of the students are 11 years old. Many of the students enjoy the school environment and like to socialize with each other. They are all friendly and have younger siblings. Most of the students are active in after-school activities, including sports, clubs, tutoring, and other community activities, which leaves little time for homework.
