Hello! I teach in a dual immersion program with slightly more than half of my 2nd grade students being native Spanish speakers. Many of their families are originally from Mexico, Ecuador, and other Latin American countries. The other half of our class speaks mostly English at home. The children are very motivated to learn and bring a rich cultural heritage with them. In our school students learn to read and write in Spanish first and then transfer those skills to English literacy in 3rd grade. In 2nd grade they are focusing on developing a strong foundation of math and literacy skills in Spanish. They also spend some time each day learning in English through the content areas of science and social studies. My students love learning and discovering new things every day!
