Giving my students basic supplies, such as pencils, crayons, and data binders give them a much greater chance to be successful in their education. When students have basic needs met they are better prepared mentally to be able to take in new information, we know this from Maslow's Hierarchy of needs. Teachers also feel less stress and more able to focus on their instruction when they have the supplies necessary. Data binders are also very useful for my students because it allows the students to track their own progress, which in turn helps them gain ownership of their learning process.
