At LEARN Campbell Campus, students are called "scholars". My scholars have experienced trauma in their lives, but that doesn't stop them from getting up every day and coming to school. Our classes serve students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities. Almost every scholar at my campus is from a low income family. Scholars rarely miss a day of school because their parents realize that school is a safe place for them in the West side of Chicago. Class sizes are between 25-35. In my classroom, scholars are kept engaged by learning new techniques and skills in art that they can relate to and even apply to their everyday lives.
