Our high school is a high poverty school with 87% of the student body on free or reduced lunch and breakfast. Many times, they do not enjoy being away from school, as their home lives tend to be lacking in conventional child-raising ethics and supplies. Books offer these children, if only for a moment, a chance to get away from their hardships and find a companion and a comfort through their readings. All these students present different personalities and a different set of challenges in daily life, but one thing that brings them together, and opens up even the shyest student, is sharing the reading experience.
